Many of the available color laser printers in the market are made to accept only up to letter and legal size paper. The reason behind this is that most users don’t see the need for tabloid or 11 x 17-inch medium. Also, printers that that do print in tabloid size media often cost a lot, which often causes people to justify whether they really need that kind of printer. Nowadays, however, as more and more people turn to bigger print media, the cost of printers that can handle their size is in a downward trend. One such color laser printer is the OKI Printing Solutions C8800n.

 

The OKI Printing Solutions C8800n is a color laser printer that is clearly made for offices that are in need of large-size output. It comes in three different variants: the basic package, the package that includes the duplexer and another package that has the duplexer and an extra paper tray. The unit alone without the duplexer as well as the third paper tray already measures 13.4 x 19.1 x 23.3 inches (HWD) and weighs a hefty 76.5 pounds. While it may seem big and heavy, it is actually quite compact and light for its type. Nonetheless, you would need some help if you plan to move the C8800n around. The design, while far from being spectacular, wouldn’t look out of place in any office. Once you’ve found a place for the C8800n, setup is a breeze. It comes with different connectivity options: USB, Parallel and Ethernet. Setting the C8800n to work on a network is as simple as plugging in the required cable and running the automated setup software.

 

The C8800n, when compared to other color laser printer, is quite fast, churning out 32 pages per minute in black and white and 26 pages per minute for color. However, when pitted against other tabloid size color laser printer, it is actually slower. Printing a whole business application suite took 9 minutes 1 second to complete. Photo printing, on the other hand, is above average. It took 25 seconds to print a 4 x 6-inch photo and 42 seconds for 8 x 10s. Quality wise, the C8800n is below average. While it produced clear and readable fonts, the quality falls below to that of a laser printer. It is the same story with color graphics. Images with solid fills had visual dithering as well as posterization. Nonetheless, quality is just right for simple business use. If you absolutely need the tabloid size printing capability, the OKI Printing Solutions C8800n’s speed and quality is a solid choice.
