Minolta Color Laser Printers - Konica Minolta magicolor
1650EN
If you are in the market for an inexpensive color laser printer, you might want to glance at the Konica Minolta
magicolor 1650EN. One look and you’d think you’re onto an economical color laser printer that produces good quality
prints. Add in network functionality and the deal just sweetens a little bit more.
The Konica Minolta magicolor 1650EN is touted as a compact color laser printer. It measures 16 x 15 x 11 inches.
However, while it may not take up much space, its 33 pounds hardly qualifies it to be portable. The design is
minimalist, albeit it looks too plastic when compared to other models. Connectivity ports include a USB port and an
Ethernet port for hooking it up in a network. The magicolor 1650EN can handle labels, envelopes, plain paper and
even recycled paper. However, the maximum media size is set only at 8.5 x 14 inches or legal sized paper. It has a
max media capacity of 700 sheets and a monthly duty cycle of 35000 pages. The paper tray, on the other hand, is
quite small, with a maximum load of 200 sheets. If you need duplexing capability, you’d have to pay for the
optional add-on since it doesn’t come in the standard package of the magicolor 1650EN.
What sets the magicolor 1650EN apart from other color laser printer is the cost of the cartridge. They have the
lowest priced cartridge available in the market. However, this does not mean that it is the most economical color
laser printer. While it is true the toner cartridges cost significantly lower than the competition, this is because
they have lower capacities. The black ink can only print less than half the number of pages compared to the
standard black ink cartridge. The same goes for the color ink cartridges. When the capacity is taken into
consideration, the printer actually has a higher per page price against other printers. This means that if you plan
to print a lot of materials, you might want to look elsewhere. You will end up shelling out more with the magicolor
1650EN.
The Konica Minolta magicolor 1650EN is a bit on the slow side, churning out 5 ppm in color and 20 ppm for black
and white. On the other hand, when it comes to quality, the Konica Minolta magicolor 1650EN delivers. The black
text looked excellent and the color prints looked just as great. If you are planning to print a limited amount of
materials and wouldn’t mind waiting for it to finish printing, the Konica Minolta magicolor 1650EN is a solid color
laser printer of choice.
